Crowhurst Cricket Club

Another classic friendly game between two counterparts from the same village! The annual cricket game between Crowhurst Village and The Plough Pub stepped up a gear this year with large hitting and some hefty run rates. Crowhurst chose to bat first, there aim being to set a challenging score for the pub in just the 30 overs that were allocated. Most batsmen responded well and did what was asked of them by captain Crut. Opening duo Sam Woodhams (45) and Keith Jenner (20) fired a brilliant lead with a partnership of 76, which included sixes that were pleasing to some, yet displeasing to others. Despite the loss of balls, Crowhursts dazzling innings continued after the fall of the opening pair, with Robert Ledsham taking his turn to smash home a delightful 46. Mike Tapsfield (13), Alex Berwick (21) and George Hopkins (54) were the only others to return with double figures, leaving Crowhurst with a solid score in just 30 overs. The pub`s reply wasn`t far short of Crowhursts run rate to start with, where P Lee (26) and G Grange were unsurprisingly able to apply shots to the many gaps in Crowhursts nine man field. Crowhursts policy of just spin bowling wasn`t enough to control the Plough`s innings as an inspirational 141 runs was hit by one man, G Grange. Crowhursts fielding soon dulled as they realised a serious challenge to their trophy title was mounting. However the 30 overs were not quite enough for G Grange to pinch a win for the plough, and yet again the Cricket team remain victorious!
