Robin Saunders Trophy
The Robin Saunders Trophy was presented to Crowhurst Cricket Club by Edna Saunders who wanted to make a donation to the club in memory of her late husband Robin who was a club member, Hon. Secretary and club Captain for many years.
Robin Saunders was a playing member of Crowhurst Cricket Club between 1947 and 1971 verified from old scorebooks, and during Robins career with Crowhurst his statistics are as follows
Played 264 matchesScored 4066 runs
Bowled 540 wickets
made 52 catches
Robin used to open the batting and bowling for the club. In 1953 Robin scored 157 not out in a match against Ashburnham, a club record that stood until 2000. See the newspaper clip below. A picture of Robin can be seen in our historical photos in 1955.
The club are missing scorebooks between 1957 and 1961 so Robin probably had more success in that time. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of those four scorebooks, please contact Kevin Cornwell. Thank-you.
The Robin Saunders Trophy will be presented each year to the players player of the year.
